Morningside Stair
This cast-in-place concrete stair is especially unique- it looks like it’s floating. The stair works to connect the private guest quarters in the hillside basement, to the upper shared spaces overlooking the Treasure Valley. The runs are offset from the adjacent walls, a fact that is highlighted by the coved lighting on either side.
Design-build construction methods led to the success of this stair standing on it’s own. The owner wanted to make a statement in their custom home with the allowance of square footage given in their approved set of plans.
The floating effect is created by providing structural support at the spiral landing, transparency provided by the steel cable intermediate partition, and the use of lighting.
